Anger General's Greatest NBA Coaches Of All-Time Top 10 List (#1 Greatest NBA Coach Voting)

Post by dwcmwa »

Given y2ktors's Award-winning NBA's All-Time Greatest NBA Player list, I've decided to start and find out who are the Best NBA Coaches of All-Time.

This list will go to 10, if there's further interest, we'll continue.

Here are the rules and guidelines:

1. Vote for your #1 coach of all time posting the said coach's name from the list of candidates available during that particular round.

2. Coaches will be chosen for a spot whenever they appear to have the majority of the votes. After 2 days, if there is not a clear cut majority winner we will declare the leader at that time as the winner.

Each thread will be stickied to the general board until the given round is over. Begin by casting your vote for #1 from these candidates:

- Phil Jackson = 6 votes

- Red Auerbach = 2 votes

- Pat Riley

- Greg Popovich = 5 votes

- Larry Brown

Total: 13 votes

My choice is Phil Jackson: 11 titles, says it all.

Only other candidate that's even close is Auerbach, but he has a lower winning percentage than Phil, plus played in a league with fewer teams and less overall talent. Not to mention Phil was behind the 1995-96 Bulls with an insane 87-13 cumulative record (Best Ever), and is responsible for the two best regular season records in NBA History, 72-10, 69-13.

The rings are nice for Phil, but the knock on him has always been how he's always walked right into winning situations. Bulls before he arrived were already making deep playoff runs. Lakers were also a good playoff team prior to his arrival. Is one really "coaching" when you have Michael Jordan and Shaquille O'Neal entering their primes?

And two of the most overlooked coaches were Billy Cunningham & Larry Costello. Not many championships between them (two), but both own higher playoff winning percentages than guys like Riley, Auerbach, and Daly.

Phil Jackson. Second choice is Dead Auerbach.

This actually reminds me of a "greatest NBA games of All Time" thread I wanted to make.

Phil has 11 rings as a head coach in the NBA.

Good catch, I was underselling Phil there for a second.

i don't know why the OP doesn't do a poll or series of polls, less room for chicanery.

For this endeavor, this is the proper way to do it.

I'm 100% guessing here, but I think it's because he posted an unauthorized pic of a former user without their permission (and the pic dwc used wasn't originally posted on this board).
