I said this on RealGM too, but for the conspiracy people, I'd be interested in hearing the nuts-and-bolts of how the conspiracy happened. But from nuts/bolts, operationally, tangibles, etc...especially E&Y's role.

The most obvious monkey wrench in the conspiracy theory is that the Mavs record before trading Luka was 26-23.. they went 13-20 afterwards due to a combination of AD and Kyrie getting hurt, which is the only way they even had that 1.8% chance at the #1 pick. So if the conspiracy was to get them the #1 pick as compensation for trading Luka.. then how the hell did they also arrange for AD and Kyrie to get hurt?

And they still fought hard as fuck to make the playoffs. They brought back AD, made the play-in, won the first game against the Kings, and needed to beat the Grizzlies to make the playoffs. If they made the playoffs than they lose the lotto pick.

If the Grizzlies laid an egg at home then the whole thing falls apart. I’m pretty sure with a can’t miss generational talent in their back pocket they would just shut down AD.

It isn't Boomer logic, it is just plain logic. The league absolutely cannot jeopardize it's credibility. If it did, revenues would plummet, almost overnight, lawsuits would be forthcoming in the hundreds of billions of dollars and so on and so forth. Even if the risk were infinitesimally small, it wouldn't be worth the risk. And presumably, other owners would need to acquiesce to the conspiracy. The league doesn't answer to the Mavericks. It answers to 30 owners and these guys are all uber competitive and all those eligible wanted that lottery win. They wouldn't allow a rigged game.

There is no scenario where the risk/reward makes sense, and there is no universe where other owners acquiesce and keep silent.

It's just logic. No need for any other qualifier.

They would be insane defensively for sure. Offensively maybe not a great fit, but Giannis+ is so overwhelming it would still be a net gain.

That said, I do think it's in the range where a reasonable GM could come to a different conclusion depending on how they feel about that issue and how exactly they project Flagg.

How would they even make the salaries work? Can they trade Kyrie with him being injured? Because I’d 100% try to get Kyrie the fuck off my team ASAP.. IMO he’s finished as an elite player. I dunno.. seems unlikely to happen but I’d go for it.
