Yo Ati

Post by CleveTown™ »

I recently watched some of R.C. Sproul’s videos on eschatology and he made some strong points about Matthew 24:34.

When the Jews asked about the destruction of the Temple and the signs of the "End of the Age," they may have been referring to the end of their current age--the Jewish age-- which ended in 70 AD with the Temple's destruction.

Many futurists interpret Matthew 24 as referring to the end of a future, the 3rd and final age-- the one I believe we’re in now.

I’ve never fully bought into the idea that “this generation” started in 1948 with Israel becoming a nation again. That’s the common view among many futurists, but here we are, 77 years later.

Eschatology can be really confusing, with so many moving parts. But Sproul did present some compelling arguments.

I’m not saying I’m a partial preterist now-- so please no video barrages!

But here's the vid I watched:

the same book "The Last Days According to Jesus" is a must read. I read it in 2004. That in combination of Matthew Henry's Commentary on Matthew 24 shut the door for me on futurism.

Bruh, I don't even know what to call myself now.

A moderate Dispensational Premillennialist with partial preterist leanings?

A Partial Preterist Dispensationalist?

I feel some major cognitive dissonance on the horizon lol.

I affirm the rapture, Tribulation, and literal future Millennium, and maintain the Israel/Church distinction...but I sorta adopt partial preterism in viewing 70 AD as the fulfillment of Jesus' Olivet Discourse.

the only logical position to hold is partial preterist post millenalism based on 1 corinthians 15:25

here's the thing, the Book of Revelation is merely an apocalyptic imagery of the olivet discourse as found in matthew, mark and luke.

Yea, this is where my futurists leanings kick in.

I think revelation isn't apoc imagery of the Olivet Discourse-- the scope was much broader than that and the destruction of the Temple: Judgment of the Nations, the Millenium, final judgment, new heaven/new earth...also the climax isn't the destruction ofthe temple, it's the ultimate destruction of evil and renewal of creation.

the seals, trumpets and bowls in Revelation really have no parallels to the O.D., too.

...idk, I think it's a huge oversimplification to just say revelation was a retelling of the OD.

the millennium informally commenced at the Resurrection and Ascension but we can say it commenced formally after the destruction of the temple because from that point on the Old Covenant and its sacrificial system permanently ceased to exists, and only the New Covenant with baptism and the communal meal of wine and bread remained.
we are right now in the millennium.
